Coconut Grove is one of our newer discoveries on the Big Island and is absolutely ideal for couples staying at the Fairmont Orchid. This secluded white sand beach is a five minute walk from the Fairmont, and feels completely private once you arrive. The name refers to the beautiful palm trees that provide cool shade on all sides, allowing for weddings at any time of day. Your view will be to the northwest, which means Maui will be visible if you look out to sea on a clear day. This beach is perfect for couples seeking a quiet, intimate ceremony location.
Let the Celebration Continue
Another plus to this location is its proximity to fine dining options and to other beaches, which allows for you and your guests to easily continue the celebration after your ceremony has concluded. Many couples will choose to walk to one of several other beaches just a short distance to the south, where you and your guests can take a variety of beautiful photos. After that, we recommend dining at Brown’s Beach House at the Fairmont, where you can reserve a private beachside chef’s table to enjoy some of the most exquisite food on the Big Island. If your meal extends past twilight, your walk back to the Fairmont will be lighted by romantic tiki torches.
Important Notes About Coconut Grove
Because Coconut Grove is oriented to the northwest, the sun will not set into the ocean at this location; it will set behind the palm trees, providing a dappled golden glow as it filters through the leaves. This location is a bit further north than some of the other wedding locations we frequent, which means the breeze may be a bit stronger on some days. There is ample parking for guests of the Fairmont, however parking options are not as plentiful for those who are staying at other resorts. As with almost all beaches in Hawaii, this beach closes 30 minutes after sunset, so the ceremony setup will need to be broken down and off the beach at that time.
