Kukio Beach & Kukio Overlook
Black lava cliffs overlooking a white sand beach filled with sea turtles
Soft White Sand Atop Black Lava Cliffs
Known for its majestic herds of green sea turtles, Kukio Beach & Kukio Overlook provide a truly unique wedding experience for nature lovers. Kukio’s white sandy beach, crystal turquoise water, and panoramic black lava overlook are easily accessible and form the perfect backdrop for romantic photos after your ceremony. Though we cannot set up chairs, we are able to provide you with a beautiful wedding arch and lush beach cushions. The weather is consistently beautiful, ensuring a breathtaking sunset to close out your special day.
Enjoy an Intimate but Centrally Located Beach
Kukio Beach is close to Kailua Kona and only 10-15 minutes north of the airport. Despite its central location, Kukio is not popular for swimming which keeps the foot traffic down and makes it the perfect beach to enjoy all Hawaii has to offer without having to share your space with other beach dwellers. If you are interested in dinner after your ceremony, we will be glad to book you a table at the Four Seasons right next to Kukio.
Important Notes About Kukio Beach & Kukio Overlook
This wedding location is best for morning or sunset weddings, as there is no shade in the area so it can become quite hot midday. The opulent sand of Kukio is fairly deep so we do not recommend wearing high heels during your ceremony, and it can pose accessibility issues for those who utilize wheelchairs, walkers, or canes. We recommend having your ceremony atop the cliff, rather than on the beach itself, and then descending to the beach afterwards to take the romantic beach photos you may be envisioning.
